Do you have the “World’s Greatest Dad?” That’s what Fantasy of Flight wants to know, because they are in search of one GREAT Dad to experince what it’s like to fly in a WWII Fieseler F1-156 Storch airplane.
Fantasy of Flight’s Storch is in top-notch flying condition and still has its original German Argus engine. It is also, one of four such planes left in existance. Just imagine, your Dad will have the opportunity to fly in this aircraft, for 30 minutes over Central Florida. Definitly a once in a lifetime experience! Your Dad will also receive tickets for the family (up to four people) to Fantasy of Flight on Father’s Day, June 20, as well as four Fantasy of Flight annual passes for the family to visit the attraction as often as they’d like for a year, a VIP Tour including behind-the-scenes accessibility of Fantasy of Flight led by Storch pilot, aviation historian and restoration specialist Ken Kellet, a special Father’s Day lunch (for up to four people) at the Compass Rose Diner and a special Fantasy of Flight gift basket for Dad. That’s one great Father’s Day present!
Don’t worry, prizes will be offered to those Dad’s that come in second and third place. The 2nd place prize is a package for Dad and his nominating (and now “favorite”) child including a pair of tickets to Fantasy of Flight for this Father’s Day, two Fantasy of Flight annual passes, a special Father’s Day lunch for two at the Compass Rose Diner and a special Fantasy of Flight gift basket for Dad and the 3rd place winner receives the second prize winner’s package, other than one annual pass instead of two.
To enter your Dad, you can submit your nomination online at www.fantasyofflight.com under the homepage link, “World’s Greatest Dad;” by mail to Fantasy of Flight, “World’s Greatest Dad” 1400 Broadway Blvd. SE, Polk City, Fla. 33868; or in the attraction’s lobby no later than 5 p.m. on Tuesday, June 8. My dad is Matteo Tufano. He is now 76 years old, and wanted so badly to join during WWII, but he was unable as he would be the last son responsible for his mother and siblings; growing up, I remember him building model airplanes at the kitchen table in the few hours before he left for his second and often, third jobs to support us. My mom injured her back during her short nursing career, and he has spent the last 25 years taking care of her, putting his own good health and mind, and hard-earned retirement years from taping/drywall; he’s always dreamed of flying, of getting a chance, but it never came because he sacrificed for his family. He is the last of a dying breed; a man who puts his family ahead of himself no matter what the cost, because he gave his word. I wish I could afford to give him this gift, but I am unable. He has had nothing for himself, even a vehicle….he still drives an old van because its the only vehicle mom can sit in for the 30 minutes she’s able to; he’s wanted a new one but she’s insistent on keeping the clunker in case she feels well enough to go for a ride. In short, his dream of flying has never culminated; this would make his years of self denial and sacrifice worth it. He takes so little for himself, and gives so much to others; he won’t even take gifts for birthdays or Christmas unless its something we baked, cooked or made…and we’re in our fifties!
God keep the pilots
