Discovery Days
Date: Wednesday, August 15
Venue: Bok Tower Gardens – Lake Wales
-Each Wednesday, children ages 6-12 will discover nature’s joy during a literary escape into the Gardens while Bok Tower features a different book in this playful and informal approach to reading and nature appreciation.
-Reservations are required, and parents are invited to join their children as they participate in each program.
-The August 15 story is Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein.
Country Music Jam
Date: Thursday, August 16
Venue:Lake Juliana Boating & Lodging – Auburndale
-Classic country music played by the very talented Simply Country Band every Thursday night.
- An “up close and personal” gathering of friends come to listen to great country selections and originals.
-The program has music and games for the audience.
Main Street Bartow’s Friday Fest
Date: Friday, August 17
Venue: Bartow
-Main Street Bartow’s Friday Fest is a FREE Downtown Bartow block party featuring live music, vendor booths, children’s activities, great food, beer and other drinks.
-Also included is the Friday Fest Cruise-in Car Show with dash plaque awards for the first entrants.
Movies in the Park
Date: Friday, August 17
Venue: Lake Eva Park – Haines City
-Enjoy a FREE movie at Lake Eva Park.
- Pre event activities start at 7:00 p.m., and the movie will begin at dusk.
-Bring your lawn chairs, blankets and snacks.
Music on the Promenade
Date: Friday, August 17
Venue: Lake Mirror Complex–Lakeland
-This is a free concert featuring Brian Sutherland Trio and Billy Needs a Beard.
-The event is FREE to the public, and families are encouraged to attend so bring a blanket, and enjoy the lake setting with music under the stars.
To Rome With Love at Polk Theatre
Dates: Friday, August 17—Sunday, August 19
Venue: Polk Theatre – Lakeland
-The Polk Theatre presents the film “To Rome With Love” starring Woody Allen, Alec Baldwin, Roberto Benigni, Penelope Cruz, Judy Davis, Jesse Eisenberg, Greta Gerwig and Ellen Paige.
-This comedy was written and directed by Woody Allen and is rated R for some sexual references.
-Tickets are available at the door.
Creative Studies at Polk Museum of Art
Date: Saturday, August 18
Venue: Polk Museum of Art—Lakeland
-Join the Center for Creative Studies for wine, light hors d’oeuvres, and a program about art, spirituality, health or creativity.
-The evening’s presenter will be Steve Bissonnette, and the theme will be “Building Conscious Community–Work that Reconnects”.
Family Fun Workshop at Polk Museum of Art
Date: Saturday, August 18
Venue: Auburndale Public Library
-Polk Museum of Art’s Family Fun Workshops provide a safe, fun environment for families to participate together in hands-on activities led by an art educator.
-August’s theme is watercolor.
Flicks in the Garden
Date: Saturday, August 18
Venue: Bok Tower Gardens–Lake Wales
-Enjoy a warm summer evening under the stars when you join Bok Tower Gardens for a summer movie classic on the great lawn.
-August’s movie showing is E.T.
Florida Trails Hike
Date: Saturday, August 18
Venue: Circle B Bar Reserve–Lakeland
-Join a member of the local Florida Trails Chapter for a guided hike of Alligator Alley.
-This trail is shaded and has a great view of Lake Hancock.
-Tour requires sign-up.
Murder is Par for the Course
Date: Saturday, August 18
Venue: Ramon Theater–Frostproof
-The mystery in which a “hole in one” is a fatal event.
-Ticket includes dinner, and seating begins at 6:30 p.m.
-Advance reservations required.
Tiger Town Classic
Date: Saturday, August 18
Venue: Joker Marchant Stadium—Lakeland
-Join the Flying Tigers and the Lakeland Corvette Club for the inaugural Tiger Town Classic car show.
-Enjoy classic cars, live music and more as the Flying Tigers take on the Dunedin Blue Jays.
Fellowship of Ballroom Dancers
Date: Sunday, August 19
Venue: First Presbyterian Church–Lakeland
-Dance to a variety of music while enjoying fellowship.
-Refreshments and a short class will be provided.
-All Fellowship of Ballroom Dancers functions are held the third Sunday of the month
