Have you ever wanted to explore the beauty, art and culture the city has to offer other than by car or foot? That’s why proprietor Beth Geohagan created BeFly Bike Tours. Geohagan’s mission is to capture the cultural beauty of Lakeland and Polk County by delivering “the promise of recreation and outdoor exercise combined with educational learning opportunities.” One of Geohagan’s main goals is to show tourists and residents these things while having fun, getting exercise and supporting local businesses. This is just what she is doing with the new Lakeland guided bike tours. The best part is that these tours will also lead people into Downtown Lakeland to shop, eat and play.

The Owner

Owner Beth Geohagan, a Lakeland native, started working on the concept of BeFly Bike Tours this past May when she retired from previous employer, CPS Investment Advisors.  Her mission was to fulfill her personal desires, while allowing herself and others to have fun, enjoy the beauty of Lakeland, share the history all while experiencing it on a bike ride.

Geohagan explains, “Lakeland is the perfect location for bicycle tours because it is rich with culture.  The close proximity of many lakes with birds and wildlife, public art displays, galleries, museums, architecture, history, and local businesses that are unique to Lakeland is what makes it so exciting.”

BeFly Bike Tours officially opened fall of 2012, and now is the perfect time for bike tours in Lakeland as the city was just named a “bicycle-friendly community” by the League of American Bicyclists. Geohagan currently operates the business out of her home, but plans to expand in the future with a downtown storefront.

The Bikes

When searching for bicycles for her newest adventure, Geohagan knew these things: she wanted bikes that were easy for all, stood out from the crowd, stylish and fun. That’s when she decided on a “lake cruiser” with single gearing and crank brakes. After countless hours of searching through various brands available, she came across Villy Customs, featured on ABC’s Shark Tank, which allowed for Geohagan to custom-design the bikes she wanted. This was perfect, since she wanted her cruisers to reflect the originality of her entire concept including the business name, the business plan, logo, tour packages and now bicycles that she personally customized.

BeFly Bike Tours now offers four men’s and four women’s brightly colored bikes with the “BeFly” logo on both the seat covers and chain guards.

Children seats, tandem tag-alongs and 24-inch cruisers are also available for the younger riders in the group.

The Tours

No matter the season, it is always a great time to take a bike ride throughout the city!

BeFly Bike Tours offers options of daily, weekend or week-long bike rentals.

Typical tours last two hours and include frequent stops for pictures, learning and overall enjoyment.

All of the tours are fully customizable based on interests, and bikers can choose from a variety of packages including: Lake Hopping, Park Hopping, Art is in Heart, Brick and Mortar, Blast from the Past and I love You.

The tours begin in the downtown area, but according to Geohagan, the beauty of each tour is that it creates a one-of-a-kind experience.  Geohagan will deliver the Lake Cruisers to the predetermined location, educate tour members on the safety of bicycling, and then set off on an adventure of fun while offering local recommendations along the way.

BeFly Bikes are available for daily, weekend, and weekly rentals, and prices are:  $30/day, $60/weekend, $100/week. All rentals include a helmet and lock.
