After much anticipation and acclaim, Polk County’s newest golf treasure is set to make its debut. Streamsong Resort, already a national award-winning resort before opening to the public, will host their Grand Opening today, Friday, December 21. Along with two championship 18-hole golf courses, a clubhouse that is home to 12 guest rooms, 4,500 feet of meeting space, a steakhouse with private dining, lounge, and golf shop, the public will finally get to see what the enormous amount of buzz for Mosaic Company’s development is all about.

Although the two courses have not been open to the public, they have already garnered national recognition and awards. Streamsong Red, a 7,050 yard layout designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, was recently recognized by Golf Magazine as the “Best New U.S. Course You Can Play”. Streamsong Blue, a bit longer at 7,250 yards and designed by Tom Doak, also received honorable mention in the same category. Both courses play to a par of 72. And if that isn’t enough there is a 37th hole, a bonus 150-yard par-3 designed and set up to settle any remaining bets.

Streamsong Resort is located in southwest Polk County near Ft. Meade, roughly 90 minutes southwest of Orlando and an hour east of Tampa. The destination is a development of the Mosaic Company, a world-leading producer of fertilizer that mines all over Florida for phosphate. Streamsong has been built on 16,000 acres of former phosphate mine land, in a remote location with no other development to be seen for miles around. With towering sand dunes, natural bunkers, deep-water ponds, and terrain left over from the mining process, Streamsong will provide golfers with a challenging and visual experience unlike any other resort in Florida.

Along with the courses, a state-of-the-art golf clubhouse featuring 4,500 square feet of meeting space, a lounge, golf shop, and a steakhouse with private dining are scheduled to open on Friday. The golf clubhouse will also feature a 12-room hotel that can accommodate up to 16 guests. A 216-room lodge is scheduled to open in late 2013, which will also feature a full-service spa, multiple dining venues, a conference center, and off-course recreation such as fishing, birding, skeet shooting, and tennis.

Green fees will range from $125 to $275 depending on season and time of day. For additional information and tee times, visit StreamsongResort.com.
