Meredith Spresser is a Polk County girl – born and bred – who started learning how to draw as soon as she was old enough to hold a pencil. Her most vivid childhood memories are of sitting in iHOP or Sambo’s with her father and learning how to draw circle people on the backs of the placemats. She graduated from Harrison School of the Arts in 1994 and from USF with a BA in Studio Art in 1999. From 2000-2007, she worked as a Curatorial Assistant at Polk Museum of Art, and since January of 2007, she has been the PR & Marketing Manager for the Museum. The arts are an integral part of her entire life, not just her professional career. Her father is an amateur artist; her sister is a professional opera singer and voice coach; her brother is an amateur photographer; her former brother-in-law is a percussionist and drum instructor; and her nephew… well, as dramatic as he can be, he’s bound to go into the theater. At age 27, she started taking ballet at Florida Dance Theatre, with not a day of training prior, and recently performed in her very first dance recital ever. She lives in Lakeland with her parents, and she has two cats, one of which has a record at the Polk County Sherriff’s Department. Mugshot and everything.

I’m sure I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again: there is no shortage of arts events to experience in Polk County. Stuff’s happening. Things can be seen, heard, and experienced. Once again, I was browsing the calendar in Art-i-Facts magazine, and I counted 34 arts events — just in February. 34! That’s more [...]

Most of the time, the arts organizations in Polk County try hard not to schedule major events on top of each other. We know that we share many of the same patrons and visitors, and it hurts us all when we have a conflict. But it doesn’t always work out. Sometimes, we force you all [...]
