2012 “Passport to Adventure and Savings” Discount Card and Brochure Now Available

Visitors to Polk County can save big on area attractions and activities, restaurants, shops, accommodations, golf courses and more with the new 2012 “Passport to Adventure and Savings” discount card, produced by the Central Florida Visitors and Convention Bureau . The free card is part of a brochure including more than 140 special offers from Polk County merchants. Local residents can take advantage of the same discounts – and recommend the card to visiting family and friends. The brochure is designed to promote local businesses and add value to a Central Florida vacation. PCTSM has produced 100,000 copies of the tourism brochure to be distributed locally, via mail and throughout the country at consumer and trade shows. Offers are valid through December 31, 2012, unless otherwise noted.

The Passport to Adventure and Savings is now available at the Polk Outpost 27 Visitor Information Center on Highway 27 in Davenport (½ mile south of I-4), and will be available at tourism partners and venues across Polk County including The Lakeland Center, Lakeland Linder Regional Airport, area chambers of commerce, PCTSM’s visitor information station at the entrance to LEGOLAND Florida and the Florida Sports Hall of Fame (at PCTSM’s Headquarters in the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex in Auburndale). Florida Residents Can Enjoy BOGO Admission to Fantasy of Flight

Florida residents can kick off their summer staycation with an affordable visit to Fantasy of Flight and a Buy One/Get One Free offer on adult and children’s general admission. Residents are invited to enjoy the great savings July 1 – Sept. 30, 2011.

Fantasy of Flight not only provides day-long excursions through themed immersion experiences, backlot and restoration tours, hands-on exhibits, and vintage aircraft from the world’s largest private collection, but the attraction now offers special children’s activities for the summer in its Fun with Flight center. Guests may refer to a published daily schedule available at the attraction for more information.

The Florida Resident BOGO Free offer is good on both adult and children’s general admission tickets. Fantasy of Flight general admission is $28.95 for adults and $14.95 for children ages 6-15, plus 7 percent sales tax. Children 5 and younger are free. June Events Soar at Fantasy of Flight

Spring into summer with two back-to-back action-packed weekends, plus a special offer just for dads at Fantasy of Flight. Guests are invited to hear firsthand accounts from “Pacific War” Veterans, explore war relics and memorabilia, and bring Dad for free during Father’s Day Weekend.

Friday, June 10 & Saturday, June 11- Legends & Legacies Series
“The Pacific War: Power and Pursuit”
Guests will receive the rare opportunity to hear from some of the few living World War II veterans who participated in this portion of the war, which began Dec. 7, 1941 with the attack on Pearl Harbor. The speakers include: Lt. Col. Doug Canning, who was hand-picked for a mission to take down the number-one top military strategist of the Japanese Imperial forces; Ray Albritton, a radar operator with the Naval Seaplane Squadron; and Bruce Gamble, featured historian in documentaries produced by The History Channel and four-time author. All symposiums are included with daily general admission and are free for all Annual Pass holders

June 10-11 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.- The Military Collector’s Show
Collectibles from the Civil War to the Vietnam War, including medals, insignia, war relics, and other memorabilia, will be featured on display from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Former Command Pilot and career Air Force officer, Joe Kittinger II, will also be available for book signings. Kittinger holds world records for the highest, fastest and longest skydive, and for being the first man to make a solo crossing of the Atlantic Ocean in a gas balloon.
Admission to the Military Collector’s Show is complimentary with Fantasy of Flight admission. To attend the show only, admission will cost $6 per person (including tax).

Thursday, June 16-Sunday, June 19- Father’s Day Special
In honor of Father’s Day, Fantasy of Flight is offering fathers free admission when accompanied by any paid youth or adult. The offer is not valid with any other offers or discounts.

Bok Tower Gardens Turns 81

Bok Tower Gardens will celebrate its 81st anniversary with special events beginning Friday, January 29 through Monday, February 1 including “Crossing the Moat,” one of the Gardens’ most popular events. New or upgraded memberships purchased Saturday and Sunday will receive $5 off the regular membership price. On January 29, the season’s first Moonlight Carillon Concert will be performed at 7:30 p.m. The Blue Palmetto Café will remain open until the hour-long concert begins and admission is half-price after 5 p.m.

On January 30 and January 31, visitors will be able to experience “Crossing the Moat,” the rare opportunity to walk across the moat that surrounds the Singing Tower for a closer look at the Great Brass Door. Special carillon concerts will be held at 1 and 3 p.m. Visitors can view the carillon performances on the video monitor located behind the Japanese Lantern and meet carillonneur William De Turk near the Information Booth following the concerts. Also on January 30, visitors are invited to a free reception to meet artists Arthur Morris and David Price. The exhibit featuring “Birds as Art” photography by Morris, sponsored by Canon, and “Winged Creation” sculptures by Price, sponsored by Andy Thornal Company, will be on display at the Visitor Center through April 1. At 6 p.m., join the artists for a reception sponsored by Andy Thornal Company, Lakeridge Winery and Lake Wales Medical Center. Following the reception and gallery walk, guests are invited to attend an audio visual presentation and book signing with Morris. Space is limited and pre-registration is required. On February 1, special carillon concerts will be held at 1 and 3 p.m. The National Historic Landmark was dedicated in 1929 as a gift of gratitude from Dutch immigrant Edward Bok, a humanitarian, Pulitzer Prize-winning author and world peace advocate who provided $100,000 for the American Peace Prize in 1923. Today it has more than 700 acres of citrus groves, woodland gardens and conservation lands where visitors can explore breathtaking sights around every corner of the meandering garden paths.
