Friday, June 10 & Saturday, June 11- Legends & Legacies Series
“The Pacific War: Power and Pursuit”
Guests will receive the rare opportunity to hear from some of the few living World War II veterans who participated in this portion of the war, which began Dec. 7, 1941 with the attack on Pearl Harbor. The speakers include: Lt. Col. Doug Canning, who was hand-picked for a mission to take down the number-one top military strategist of the Japanese Imperial forces; Ray Albritton,  a radar operator with the Naval Seaplane Squadron; and Bruce Gamble, featured historian in documentaries produced by The History Channel and four-time author. All symposiums are included with daily general admission and are free for all Annual Pass holders

June 10-11 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.- The Military Collector’s Show
Collectibles from the Civil War to the Vietnam War, including medals, insignia, war relics, and other memorabilia, will be featured on display from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Former Command Pilot and career Air Force officer, Joe Kittinger II, will also be available for book signings. Kittinger holds world records for the highest, fastest and longest skydive, and for being the first man to make a solo crossing of the Atlantic Ocean in a gas balloon.
Admission to the Military Collector’s Show is complimentary with Fantasy of Flight admission. To attend  the show only, admission will cost $6 per person (including tax).

Through interactive activities, which involve some of the attraction’s rare and vintage aircraft, guided by Fantasy of Flight’s skilled aviation experts, Scouts will earn their aviation merit badges. Over 400 boy scouts have participated in the Annual Boy Scout Aviation Camporee in the past two years and Fantasy of Flight is proud to host the Camporee for yet another year. 

Former Boy Scout Kermit Weeks, Fantasy of Flight creator and founder, is proud to put on the Camporee so that Scouts have the ability to learn about aviation at a unique educational venue.

This two day forum will welcome two of the original WASP’s and one, real-life “Rosie” to bring to life the experiences of these heroic women.

WASP’s Barry Vincent Smith (returning to Fantasy of Flight for a second time) and Elizabeth “Betty” Wall Strohfus will recount what it was like to leave their homes and jobs at the height of WWII to serve their country as the first American women to fly for the U.S. military.   

Opal Campbell, worked a factory job as a “dimpler” to support the war effort.  The dainty and diminutive Campbell was one of thousands of women who left their homes to take on tough jobs in factories that produced munitions and war supplies. 

The symposium will bring to life the experiences of Smith, Strohfus and Campbell through open-forum/question-and-answer sessions as well as permanent and semi-permanent exhibits and real aircraft.  Fantasy of Flight’s WASP exhibition, which includes aircraft as well as four separate bays that feature historical, anecdotal, and inspirational newsreel footage, original photos, and storytelling panels from the 1940s and today, will serve as the backdrop for historic appearances from the real pilots.

Of course, the game is inspired by the aviation wonderland, Fantasy of Flight, and the aviation themed-children’s book, All of Life is a School, written by the attraction’s owner Kermit Weeks, the game is a fun way to allow users to learn about the game’s vintage aircrafts in a hands-on and imaginative way. In the spirit of curiosity and exploration, Fantasy of Flight partners with Apollo Paranormal Investigations (API), a non-profit investigative team based in Apollo, Florida, to create this unique experience.  During this night time tour, a limited number of guests are admitted to Fantasy of Flight. Participants are trained in the operation of tools, devices and techniques that investigative professionals use to determine the difference between coincidences and inexplicable phenomenon.  Following the training portion, participants are divided into investigative teams to seek, retrieve and record data throughout Fantasy of Flight.

Due to the overwhelming popularity of this event, Fantasy of Flight opened two additional dates , Saturday, February 20 and Saturday, March 6 for visitors to experience the paranormal.  “We hope that our curious explorers will have experienced what so many of our employees, guests and paranormal researcher have witnessed in the past.”, said Kim Long, General Manager, Fantasy of Flight.

Throughout the festival, the best of the best in aviation perform precision aerial maneuvers, flying at speeds of up to 300 miles per hour, in Fantasy of Flight owner Kermit Weeks’  “World’s Greatest Aircraft Collection.”  Challenging their full-size counterparts, giant-scale model aircraft will strut their stuff in their own demonstrations.  Meanwhile, classic car lovers stroll through the Rare, Antique, Classic & Exotic Car Show, marveling at classic and one-of-a-kind luxury automobiles.  Powered paragliders create a colorful canopy in the sky while vintage race boats from the Classic Race Boat Association perform fly-bys below.  New this year, they’re also hosting a “Sweet & Saucy” food festival with ice cream and hot wing recipe contests, tasting and interactive activities, as well as arts and crafts for the kids.

Advance ticket purchasers will receive one FREE child’s admission ($12, ages 6-15) with each paid adult ticket ($23). In addition, guests will receive an “added value” when they donate supplies for troop care packages to be assembled and mailed at the festival in conjunction with Homefront Hugs USA.
