Polk Museum of Art’s upcoming exhibition, The Surreal Photography of Jerry Uelsmann, is certain to be a favorite among people who love photography or surrealism. The artist, Jerry Uelsmann, is a former University of Florida photography professor, and he’s been creating dream-like images in his darkroom longer than Photoshop has been around!

If you’re looking for something crafty to get you in the mood for the Holidays, then Polk Museum of Art may just have the perfect workshop for you.

On Saturday, September 5, Polk Museum of Art will open its most recent exhibitions, Beautiful Things and A Perfect Mesh.  Both exhibitions are curated from the Museum’s Permanent Collection, but the focus of each one is very different.

Polk Museum of Art has a new toy in its lobby – an Art-O-Mat! It’s an old cigarette machine that has been refurbished to vend original pieces of art for $5 each (+ tax).   This is one of three Art-O-Mats in the state. The other two are in Miami.

I’ve recently found out about a new theatre company in Lakeland that is planning to bring edgy, raw, and sometimes controversial productions to our area. Sounds like some good art to me! Polk Museum of Art is opening three new exhibitions in June, and the first one is Shelter, an exhibition of works from the Museum’s permanent collection. Since I’ve been having a hard time putting the concept behind this exhibition into my own words, I’m just going to quote PMoA’s Curator of Art, Todd Behrens:

So, I just found out about a really cool, innovative series of events happening this summer. I’d heard rumors of it, but this is the first I’d seen that showed it was a done deal. Polk Theatre and Florida Dance Theatre are teaming up with some serious local talent to present SummerJamz at Polk Theatre. [...]
