Proving yet again that it is much more than a typical “Visitor’s Center”, Polk Outpost 27 has lined up a pretty impressive list of summer events. Polk Outpost 27, the county’s official visitor information center, has always been described as a hands-on, interactive experience for both visitors and local residents, but they are definitely turning it up a notch as they will host a series of events at the center from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The summer event series includes:
Saturday, July 26 – Live Demos by Cypress Gardens and Fantasy of Flight. Interact with a Southern Belle from Cypress Gardens and get a front row seat as an animal handler conducts a live demonstration. In addition, go back in time with a themed aviation character from Fantasy of Flight.

Saturday, August 9 – Get your Game on with Recreation Station. Join other students for a back-to-school bash like no other! Let the arcade experience come to you as Eagle Ridge Mall’s Recreation Station brings a variety of arcade games to “get your game on.”

Saturday, August 23 – Flywheelers’ Restoration Projects. The Florida Flywheelers, an antique engine club, will showcase some of their most unique antique tractors, cars, and stationary engines.

Polk Outpost 27 is located on Highway 27 in Davenport. It is easy to find, just a half mile south of Interstate 4 at Exit 55.

Polk Outpost 27, Central Florida’s official visitor information center, recently added a new element to the experience – a store filled with items unique to Polk County. The store, which opened mid May, features hand-crafted items from local vendors, including one-of-a-kind jewelry, designer t-shirts, hand bags, and original art pieces. Shoppers can also take home some of Polk County’s local flavors by purchasing items like Davidson of Dundee’s marmalades and jellied candies, chocolate from Webb’s candy factory, orange blossom honey from Leighton’s, soup from the Chalet Suzanne Restaurant, and Florida Natural’s citrus juices.

Some of the best-selling items to date include alligator paraphernalia, such as stuffed versions of the reptiles–not the orange and blue kind though–the real thing.

Make the Polk Outpost 27 General Store your next stop for Polk County related items. It is located on Highway 27, just a half mile south of I-4 (at Exit 55).
